We believe healthy churches find the sweet spot.

Many people have experienced churches that felt too demanding—or not challenging enough. Too formal or too casual. Too rigid or too unstructured. Too focused on tradition or too quick to follow every new trend.

At First Presbyterian Church of Wayne, we seek a faithful balance. We are rooted in historic Christianity while engaging the world around us with grace, truth, and love. Our desire is to be a church where people can grow deeply in their faith, build meaningful relationships, and serve Christ together.

We are a diverse family of faith made up of people from many different backgrounds—lifelong churchgoers, those returning to church after many years, and those exploring Christianity for the first time. What unites us is not our backgrounds, but our shared faith in Jesus Christ.

Founded in 1881, we were the first congregation to gather for worship in the settlement that would become Wayne, Nebraska. More than a century later, God continues to write new chapters in our story.

What is a Matthew 25 church? Matthew 25:31-46 calls al of us to actively engage in a the world around us, so our faith comes alive and we wake up to new possibilities. Convicted by this passage, both the 222nd and 223rd General Assemblies (2016 & 2018) exhorted the PC(USA) to act boldly and compassionately to see our neighbors through Jesus’ eyes and serve those who are marginalized or in need–people who are hungery, thirsty, naked, sick, imprisoned, strangers, poor, or oppressed in other ways and in need of welcoming.

Empowered by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, we seek to live out Christ’s Great Commandment and Great Commission:
