Our chief end is to glorify and enjoy God forever.”

A WORD FROM THE (new!) PASTOR:

Grace and peace to you,

As the Advent season draws near I am reminded of the many journeys woven through the Scriptures of the season. During Advent we recall Mary’s visit to her cousin Elizabeth, Joseph and Mary’s trip to Bethlehem, the shepherd’s journey from the fields to Bethlehem to  find Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus.  The journey of the Wise Men following the star to an unknown destination.

In many ways my journey, as well as that of First Presbyterian, reminds me of the Wise Men who set off following the star unsure where the journey would end.  Likewise trusting the Holy Spirit, like following a brightly, shining star, we each began with a step.

Your journey has been one of discovery, thinking about who you are as a community, what you envision for your future.  As a congregation you spent time in reflection and discernment about your life together and your next pastor.   When the Pastor Nominating Committee was elected they began a journey as you entrusted them to follow the Spirit’s leading moving through the discernment process of identifying a pastoral candidate.

When I began feeling the prompting of the Spirit that it might be time to move, I didn’t have a specific destination in sight.  I am delighted that led by the Holy Spirit our journeys came to a crossroad in October when you extended and I accepted the call to become your next pastor.   I look forward to getting to know each of you, to hear your hopes and dreams for your congregation, learn the history of your faith family, the community and where those stories intersect.

Often in our journeys we encounter detours and while finding housing has caused a delay in my move to Wayne, it hasn’t dampened my enthusiasm to move into the rhythm of First Presbyterian.   January 8th will be my first Sunday as your pastor.  We will begin our journey of faith and discipleship together in the New Year.  Like the Wise Men each of us are called to offer our gifts to Christ trusting our Triune God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we set out together.   We can be confident that wherever the journey leads our Triune God is faithful and give thanks that we go forward in God’s grace and love.

May the gifts of love, joy, hope and peace, be yours in abundance now and always,

 Pastor Teresa
